WICSD in top 7% in 'Business First' Upstate school rankings

The West Irondequoit CSD ranks in the top seven percent among school districts in Upstate New York, according to Buffalo-based Business First’s 2020 annual academic rankings for schools. To be more precise, WICSD ranks 31st out of 430 and seventh among Rochester-area schools.

It’s the seventh straight year WICSD ranks seventh locally.

All of Business First’s rankings are based on the latest four years of test results and graduation rates available from the NY State Education Department. All ratings have been generated from data for the period of 2016 through 2019.

Business First has been issuing annual performance ratings for school districts and individual schools since 1992 in WNY (Buffalo-Niagara Falls market) and since 2010 in the Rochester area. Its 2020 Upstate NY rankings include 48 counties, including areas around Albany, Binghamton, Plattsburgh, Syracuse, Utica-Rome, Watertown, Western New York and Rochester.

The publication rates all Upstate public schools that meet these three criteria:

  1. Enrollment: Average annual enrollment of at least 200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade over the past four years.
  2. High school: A functioning public high school within the district.
  3. Past data: At least two years of qualifying test data within the past four years.
