West Irondequoit voters approved the district's 2020-21 budget by a 71 percent vote and two longtime Board of Education members, Mrs. Ann Cunningham and Mr. John Vay, were elected to serve another term. Those results were announced Wednesday at District Office. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and executive order by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the vote was conducted solely by absentee ballots. Before thanking the community for its support of our schools, Superintendent, Dr. Aaron Johnson, also praised the hard work by the staff assembled to send out ballots and count votes. That team was led by District Clerk, Mrs. Pat Kelly.

Here are the results:

Comment from Superintendent, Dr. Aaron R. Johnson:
"More than any other year, this budget reflects a tremendous amount of perseverance and critical thinking by our Board of Education and staff. Despite the significant shortfall in funding caused by a freeze in state aid and the financial fallout from the pandemic, we have safeguarded the integrity of our programs and services. Thanks to our community support, our students will continue to experience a top-notch education that offers a multitude of avenues for every student to discover and develop their best self."

From Board President, Mr. Vay: "Once again our community came out to support our students and staff with a 71 percent approval rating. I really couldn't do it without my fellow board members that dedicate their time and talents to this district to support our community along with the leadership of Dr. Johnson."
