State issues official guidance on masking

NYS Dept. of Health issues official mask guidance
Posted on 06/08/2021

After the ups and downs of last weekend, we did receive official updated guidance from the NYSDOH regarding school reopening and specifically, masking mandates. Below are the highlights:

  • “Effective June 7, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports. However, Responsible Parties may choose to require masks outdoors on school grounds, subject to the parameters of this guidance. No student, teacher, staff member, or visitor may be prevented from wearing an acceptable face mask voluntarily on school grounds.
  • Effective June 7, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports.”

The entire NYSDOH school reopening document issued June 7, 2021 can be found at THIS LINK. As previously communicated, students and staff are now permitted to unmask on our school campuses but reserve the option to voluntarily mask if applicable. Per this guidance, the wearing of appropriate face coverings remains a requirement inside of our school buildings.

Thank you, and please contact your child(ren)'s building principal or me with any questions. We anticipate this to be the final edit to NYSDOH school reopening guidance for this school year and will use it as a benchmark for reopening schools this coming fall.

With gratitude,
