May 14: Graduation & athletic attendance updates

Updates on Irondequoit HS graduation, athletic event attendance & COVID cases
Posted on 05/14/2021

Dear Families:

This week marked a milestone for 24 of our teachers and administrators as we recognized their tenure accomplishment (watch the ceremony). Tenure marks a significant career achievement because it reflects the sustained quality and high achievement of that individual in the service of our students and community. As a staff, we have a shared pride in the performance of our peers, and in West Irondequoit, you can see this reflected in the encouragement and compassion we give each other. Like with our students, all means all, and together, we ensure that everyone is supported.

As a reminder, the annual school budget vote and Board of Education election is 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Tuesday, May 18th, at the St. Paul Blvd. Fire Department. Please watch our social media or visit the district website for more information. Thank you to the many staff, administrators, and Board of Education who spent many hours preparing this year's proposal.

Lastly, a friendly reminder that our last Community Connections webinar this school year will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25th via Zoom. This is a townhall-type virtual meeting in which representative staff members from across the district and I discuss relevant topics with you. For this session, we will discuss culturally relevant education in our schools.

IHS GRADUATION UPDATE

The 2021 IHS Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26th at RIT's Gordon Field House. We are able to accommodate three ticketed guests for each graduate. Detailed information regarding tickets and COVID requirements will be shared next week. Thank you to those who participated in our recent graduation surveys. Students and parents had the opportunity to rank their preferences regarding three graduation options. Just under 500 votes selected one graduation ceremony as their top choice. We are excited to celebrate with your family!

EXPANDED ATTENDANCE AT ATHLETIC EVENTS

In accordance with the state athletic association's change this week, West Irondequoit will now allow up to 500 spectators for outdoor athletic events. All other masking and distancing protocols remain in place. These guidelines are for home events and are subject to change as new guidance is released. Events at other schools are subject to their guidelines.

COVID-19 CASE UPDATE

Since our last communication on May 7, the Monroe County Dept. of Public Health has reported one new case in our District: a Dake Jr. High School student. Per federal privacy laws, we can’t disclose any more details or personally identifiable information. Questions? Call the MCDPH Hotline at 753-5555.
