For 10 straight years, the Irondequoit High School Business Department has earned the W!SE (https://www.wise-ny.org/) Blue Star School distinction for teaching financial literacy and since 2013 it been a Top 100 school nationally. But IHS reached rare air on Monday. W!SE announced its 2020 rankings for the best mid-sized high schools and IHS is sixth in the country. Its overall ranking was a strong 24th nationally.

“The Business Education staff at Irondequoit High School feels a great responsibility to teach comprehensive financial education to the students who elect to take the Career and Financial Management course. It is a class that every student can benefit from daily for their whole life,” said Mr. Lou DiCesare, who has guided the IHS Business Dept. and its high-achieving DECA Club with Mrs. Jeanine Lent, Mrs. LaVon Bucciarelli and Tricia Taylor. “It is through only the hard work and commitment of the students who completed this course that this national recognition was even possible.”

The W!SE ranking is based on the 130 student performances in Irondequoit’s Career & Financial Management classes during the 2019-20 school year. IHS began using W!SE to assess/measure financial literacy about 13 years ago for all students registered in its Career & Financial Management classes.
