Irondequoit High School’s Charlie Chodak has been named the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce Business Student of the Year for IHS. Normally, a reception is held to honor each winner from IHS and Irondequoit’s two other high schools – Bishop Kearney and Eastridge – but because of the pandemic students were presented with the honor at their school.

That happened Wednesday at IHS. A High Honor Roll student, Chodak has earned the Career & Technical Education gold seal distinction for Business on his IHS diploma that he’ll receive June 26th. A two-time DECA State Champion for the Business Simulation competition in Sports Marketing, Chodak also competed in the DECA Accounting Application event and was a regional finalist twice. He also earned Top 10 State honors in that event.

Chodak has been the DECA Treasurer for the past two years and Class Treasurer. He was the recipient of the University of Pittsburgh Book Award, the High Honors Chemistry Award and the Iron Man Award for Football, which he has played throughout high school. He has played lacrosse, too.

An active member of the high-achieving DECA Club at IHS, Chodak has volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army, raked leaves for the Sunset House, collected food for the Irondequoit Community Cupboard and cleaned up litter on Durand Beach. Chodak has earned admission to attend Syracuse University to study accounting. Congrats, Charlie!
