41 students advanced to states in February

Irondequoit High School business students represented themselves and their school well in Thursday’s DECA Regional Competition at RIT. More than 150 IHS students competed with 500-plus others from other local schools such as Aquinas, Batavia Notre Dame, Brighton, LeRoy, McQuaid. Penfield, Pittsford Sutherland, Pittsford Mendon, Rush-Henrietta, Spencerport and Victor.

And 41 IHS students qualified for the state competition in February!

DECA (www.deca.org) enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, applying learning in the context of business, connecting to business and the community and promoting competition. Students in DECA leverage their experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.

IHS students in Mrs. Bucciarelli, Mrs. Lent, Mrs. Taylor and Mr. DiCesare's business classes tested their knowledge in several of the nearly 50 competitive marketing events (team and individual). There are only four finalists awarded for team events and six for individual events. Winners earned the right to represent Monroe County (Region 10) at the DECA State Career Conference. The SCC will be Feb. 26-28 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, where 2,000-plus students from around the state will compete.
