The West Irondequoit business education curriculum will prepare
students to function in and meet the challenges of a global economy and
an ever-changing business community. Guided by New York State and
National standards, the business education curriculum will promote
fundamental knowledge and skills that will benefit students' personal
and professional lives, and will provide a foundation for students
pursuing college and careers in business disciplines.
The Business Education curriculum will:
- Reflect the depth, range, rigor and relevance of NYS and national
business education standards and provide students multiple, challenging
and creative paths to meet and exceed these standards
- Prepare students to become responsible citizens, capable of making
the astute financial and economic decisions that will benefit their
personal and professional lives
- Create instructional contexts, content and resources using technical
skills and evolving technology to meet the needs of all learners
- Develop students' understandings of business operations and the social contexts of employment settings
- Promote the development of interpersonal, communication, teamwork
and leadership skills essential for working in a global economy
- Develop an awareness of career opportunities, and the lifelong
learning skills necessary for ongoing professional growth within or
transition between careers
- Be varied in nature providing students with graduation choices that are meaningful and professionally advantageous
- Integrate the conceptual and quantitative aspects of business problem solving
- Provide students the opportunity to understand the value of the entrepreneurial spirit
- Promote the principles of law and ethics as they apply to personal and business settings
- Actively involve local businesses and community members who can
share experiences and provide real-life problem-solving opportunities
- Incorporate opportunities, in addition to coursework, for greater
student practice and achievement in the area of business. These
opportunities will be provided through a variety of co-curricular
organizations and career-oriented programs
