NOVEMBER 12, 2020 UPDATE
Dear Families,
We have received direction from the New York Department of Health and Governor’s Office that we may begin moderate- and low-risk winter sports. There is an abundance of guidance and protocols surrounding safety measures that we must follow for student-athletes to practice and play in a safe environment.
On Monday, Nov. 9, the NYS Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced:
“After consultation with state officials, NYSPHSAA has confirmed low and moderate risk winter sports (bowling, gymnastics, indoor track & field, skiing and swimming & diving) are permitted to be played… At this time, authorization has not been provided for high risk sports to begin play. The high-risk sports start date continues to be examined and will be revised if needed but is contingent upon authorization from state officials.” - Dr. Robert Zayas, Executive Director
As such, the Monroe County Public School Athletic Conference (MCPSAC) Athletic Administrators and Superintendents, as well as the West Irondequoit Central School District will offer the following sports and levels beginning on Monday; December 7th, 2020:
WINTER SPORTS |
Nordic Ski Boys/Girls Varsity |
Nordic Ski Boys/Girls Mod - B |
Bowling Boys/Girls Varsity |
Swimming & Diving Boys Varsity & JV |
On Nov. 17, the NYSPHSAA announced high-risk winter sports -- basketball, cheerleading, ice hockey and wrestling -- are on hold until Jan. 4, 2021 and two days later we learned that is also the case for Section V on Indoor Track and Field.
Additionally, the NYSDOH categorized ‘High Risk’ Fall Sports (Football, Volleyball and Fall Cheerleading) have been moved to a Fall-2 Season beginning on March 1, 2021, and the Spring Season start date has been moved to April 19, 2021.
REGISTRATION: Family ID registration will open for low and moderate risk winter sports on Monday, Nov. 16th. The deadline for registering is Nov. 30, 2020. Please visit the WICSD Athletics page for FamilyID signup instructions. We encourage families to register if they’re considering participating. Students can participate in athletics whether in the hybrid model or Full-Remote Instruction this winter. A current physical (Health Appraisal) must be on file with the school nurse. Physicals are valid for one year and a waiver for extension has not been granted for the winter season. Please upload your athlete’s physical to your Family ID account. For assistance with Family ID, please call Family ID support at 1-781-205-2800.
TRANSPORTATION: Families are responsible to transport athletes who are not part of in-person classes to campus for practices or to campus to ride the bus to games. Practice times for all sports and levels are TBD.
SPECTATORS: Once competition schedules are finalized, we will share game day logistical information.
We will continue to provide the most up-to-date information so you can make the best decisions possible for your athlete and family. For questions and/or comments, please reach out to the athletic office.
Thank you for your support and patience as we plan our winter athletics. We know the value that athletics holds for our student athletes; they instill a sense of pride in school and community and teach lifelong lessons, teamwork and self-discipline while promoting physical and emotional development.
Sincerely,

Kimberly A. Schon
