JANUARY 28, 2021 UPDATE
Winter Sports Restart/Update
We are excited that the Governor’s office and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has given NYSPHSAA teams in basketball, ice hockey and wrestling the go-ahead to start practice on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021 (competitive cheerleading has been moved to March). Click here to view sport-specific guidance document. FamilyID registration is open. They join our bowlers, Nordic skiers, swimmers and indoor track athletes. As we did in the fall season and as we’ve done throughout our buildings this school year, there will be many protocols in place to help ensure the safety of student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We appreciate your attention to them and, in advance, your cooperation. More details below.
Thank you,
Kim Schon
Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics
UPDATED WINTER STATE/SECTION V GUIDANCE

- Feb. 8: Modified sports start
- March 1: Tentative start date for "Fall II" season (football, volleyball, cheer)
- March 6: End of winter regular season

REGISTRATION
- Click the link to learn how to register and to register via FamilyID.
- Students in Hybrid or Full Remote Instruction learning models are eligible.
TRANSPORTATION
- Families are responsible to transport athletes who are not part of in-person instruction to campus for practices or to campus to ride the bus to games. Practice times will be communicated by their coaches.
SPECTATORS/ATTENDING EVENTS
- Practices and games/competitions are NOT OPEN to the general public or student body.
- Per NYS DOH’s Interim COVID-19 guidance for Sports and Recreation, only two spectators per player are allowed. However, in West Irondequoit, that is subject to the event venue. For example, games at Dake Jr. High School and/or Sproule Fieldhouse may not be allowed spectators. Please check with your child’s coach.
- Each player will assign their two spectator passes to two individuals. The bearer of each pass must be prepared to display it upon entering the event and upon request later, if asked by school officials. Any changes to spectator pass designees must be approved by the Director of Athletics.
- Spectators must wear face coverings while in any school building and when they are in common areas. They should also maintain 6 feet of physical distance between individuals and/or family/household units and only sit in designated areas allowing for social distance.
PARTICIPATION INFORMATION
- Athletes should come to practices and games in uniform in appropriate clothing. If possible, they’re encouraged to bring their own water bottles and towels. Locker rooms can be utilized, but only minimally.
- Families/athletes are required to submit a daily screening to their coach prior to that day’s practice/game/workout.
- Students must participate in 6 practices before representing their school in a scrimmage/contest. For wrestling, the minimum is 10 practices.
- The NYSPHSAA has waived the “seven consecutive day rule” for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. That allows teams to practice/compete on seven straight days.
- We are working with the Monroe County Public Athletic Conference to develop our winter schedule and will communicate those updates when they become available.
- Questions should be directed to a student athlete’s coach.

JANUARY 25, 2021 UPDATE
On Friday, Gov. Cuomo gave the OK for winter sports currently on pause to start Monday, Feb. 1 as long as they adhere to safety protocols (click this LINK) to read the 16-page guidance) and receive approval of the Monroe County Department of Public Health. Ms. Kim Schon, our Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, is working with league/Section V officials on details that we will soon communicate. In fact, we will have an Athletics Zoom video webinar at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (link to come later this week). We plan to open FamilyID registration for those paused sports soon. The state guidance also cleared the way for football, lacrosse and volleyball to compete later this year. Again, when we have more details, we will share them.
