Teens Can Be Good Drivers – Really!
Wednesday, April 29 7 p.m. Dake Junior High School 350 Cooper Road All Purpose Room / Use door #1
Bewildered parents can learn what they can do to ensure the safety of their children (not to mention the community at large) by coming to a talk by Anne Brayer, M.D., associate professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics and Director of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Rochester. Dr. Brayer will present information on the NYS graduated drivers license and on how to help our teens be smart drivers. A discussion will be held about the benefits of a parent/teen driving contract and how to start the conversation on setting guidelines for the road. A questions and answer period will follow the presentation.
The Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Rochester is an injury prevention program centered at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. The program is a coalition of medical, community and local government personnel and is focused on preventing injuries in Rochester area children. In addition to teen driving, areas of focus include child passenger safety, and the prevention of bicycle injuries, playground injuries and injuries that occur in the home. The coalition is also responsible for the construction of two area playgrounds with funding from the Allstate Foundation.
Anne Brayer, MD, FAAP, has been the co-director of the Injury Free Coalition since its inception. She is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at the Ronald McDonald Pediatric Emergency Department at Strong. She is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester and as such is involved in the education of medical students and residents. She received her training at the University of Rochester and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She has published research in a variety of areas, including injury prevention, fever in infants, and pediatric resident education.
