Business students from Irondequoit High School completed the 2010 on-line LifeSmarts challenge on February 5th and claimed the top score in the state. As a result, five Irondequoit Business students will travel to Miami, FL to compete in the National LifeSmarts competition.

LifeSmarts (www.lifesmarts.org ) is a quiz-show style competition that tests students' knowledge on consumer-related issues. LifeSmarts, a program sponsored by the New York Credit Union Foundation, is a consumer education competition that tests teens in grades 9-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities.

Students begin by logging on, taking a series of practice quizzes, and forming teams to compete on-line. Over 300 Irondequoit students took the on-line tests to help rank Irondequoit High School. At the end of the three-month long process, Irondequoit claimed first place against over approximately 45 other NYS schools that were competing after a tie was broken against Saranac Lake High School.

After a playoff of the top 20 Irondequoit students - the following students will represent Irondequoit High School and New York State at the national contest April 24-27. Costs for the trip will be sponsored by NY Credit Union Foundation and other local credit unions. The Irondequoit LifeSmarts team is advised by Business Teachers Lou DiCesare, LaVon Bucciarelli and Jeanine Lent.
