IHS senior Patrick Sherwood earned first place in an essay contest sponsored by Ancient Coins for Education, an organization that encourages learning about Classical (Greek, Roman, and Byzantine) history through the use of ancient numismatics. Patrick’s essay was about Empress Tranquillina, wife of Gordian III who reigned from 241-244 AD. who had a coin minted showing Hercules conquering the Cretan Bull. He researched the period and wrote a creative non-fiction essay and included the coin and its connection to his story.
Patrick is a fifth year Latin student, studying with Mrs. Susie Scoppa.
