Irondequoit High School Business Students Compete in Business Club Competition and Qualify to Compete at the DECA State Career Conference
Business students from Irondequoit High School competed in the 2009 DECA Regional Competition on Friday, January 6th. The event took place at Monroe Community College and had over 600 business students participating from schools around Monroe County including Brighton, Pittsford Sutherland, Pittsford Mendon, Aquinas, Spencerport, Gates-Chili, Pembroke, Rush-Henrietta, Mercy, Marshall, Fairport and Irondequoit. DECA (an association for marketing students) was organized in 1946 around an ambitious goal: to improve educational and career opportunities in marketing, management and entrepreneurship for students. In the years since, DECA has remained on the cutting edge of educational innovation, working with the business community to integrate academic achievement with career and technical skills. There are nearly 50 different competitive marketing events for students to participate in and learn about the field of marketing. Irondequoit students in Mrs. Bucciarelli, Mrs. Lent and Mr. DiCesare’s Business classes traveled to MCC to test their knowledge in their chosen event, which includes both team and individual events. There are only four finalists awarded for team events and six for individual events.
In the team events, there were six Irondequoit teams that earned finalist trophies:

All student finalists are now eligible to compete at the State Career Conference in Rochester March 4-6th as a result of their performances.
