Detailed information is available in the College & Career Center. Unless otherwise noted, this information is for Seniors.

 

Leadership/Community Service/Academics/Athletics:

The Fairport Savings Bank Legacy Scholarship seeks to recognize a young person that demonstrates the desire and ability to make a difference in his or her community.  Applicant must have demonstrated commitment to community service through volunteer activities, maintain a “B” average or better and reside in either Fairport, Webster, Penfield or Irondequoit.   Four awards of $1,000 each will be given to one student from each community.  Deadline is March 31st.

 

The Andrew G. Attinasi Scholar-Athlete Scholarship for at least $2,000 is available for a graduating IHS senior who has participated on a sanctioned high school athletic team during each year of high school, has attended IHS for all four years of high school and plans to participate in intercollegiate athletics in college.  Deadline is April 2nd.

Rochester Women’s Council is offering the Young Women of Distinction Award to a high school senior who demonstrates excellence in academics, community service and leadership.  Recipients of the award will receive a cash scholarship and a paid internship with a local company.  Deadline is April 9th.

The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is offering two scholarships, an Athletic Scholarship and an Academic Scholarship.  Applicants must have a minimum 85 average, be active in community service and extracurricular activities and can demonstrate financial need.  Students can apply for both scholarships and do not have to be Italian-American.  Deadline is April 16th.

 

The Barnard-Kuichling-Acorn Society Scholarship is available to students graduating in the top 10% of the class, will continue their education at any 2 or 4-year college, university or technical school and demonstrates financial need.  Several awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 are awarded each year. See Mrs. Barnatones in the Career Center if you would like to be considered.  Deadline is April 30th.

 

The Frank Commisso Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Frank Commisso, a highly esteemed golf pro at Irondequoit Country Club.  The number of awards may vary but are usually $750 to $1,000 each for academically talented, community-minded high school graduates with financial need. Completed applications must be returned to Mrs. Barnatones by May 1st.

 

The Rich Funke Jr. Scholarship will award $2,000 annually; $1,000 to each of the two recipients who display the traits of Rich Funke Jr.  Applicants must be a junior or senior attending IHS and currently participating in either community or school athletics. The scholarship is intended to be used for an activity outside the classroom that helps the applicant pursue a specific goal.  Deadline is June 1st.

 

Big Sun Athletics is offering a $500 scholarship to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  All student athletes are eligible.  Application information is available at www.bigsunathletics.com   Deadline is June 24th.

 

Career Specific:

The Genesee Valley/Finger Lakes Division of the March of Dimes is offering the Harvey Schultz and Esther Schultz Health Education Scholarship.  Applicants must be planning to attend a Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne or Yates County post-secondary school to study a health related career.  Deadline is March 31st.

 

National Association of Women in Construction Chapter #314 is offering a scholarship to a woman pursuing a degree in construction; construction management; architecture, civil, mechanical, and structural or electrical engineering.  Deadline is March 31st.

 

NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal is offering The Paul Jenson Memorial Scholarship of $2,500 to a student who has shown interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue this path in college.  Deadline is April 2nd.

The Arc of Monroe County is privileged to offer up to five scholarships to high school students attending a high school in Monroe County.  The scholarship will be a minimum of $500 per semester for one year.  Applicant must accept paid summer internship with The Arc of Monroe County and be seeking a career working in the human services field.  Deadline is    April 15th.

Each year the West Irondequoit Teachers’ Association awards a $1,500 scholarship and two one-time stipends of $500.  This scholarship is a symbolic gesture of the pride the teachers at IHS have in the students they teach.  This scholarship is awarded to a senior planning to enter the teaching profession.  Deadline is April 16th.

 

The Irondequoit Lions Club is offering the Dr. Robert M. Santo Memorial scholarship to high school seniors who have completed at least 50 hours of community service.  Applicants should be students who have a goal to work in the medical or educational field with community service emphasis.  Deadline is April 30th.

 

The Frank Commisso Golf Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors who are planning to continue their education in a golf-related educational program. Completed applications must be returned to Mrs. Barnatones by May 1st.

 

The New York State Nutrition Association is offering the Jeff Siegel Memorial Scholarship.  This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating high school students who intend to pursue a career in the food service industry and have been accepted to a college offering course work in the field of food service.  Deadline is May 1st.

 

Ethnic:

The Vincent Lombardi Lodge #2270 is offering a $1,500 scholarship to a graduating Italian-American heritage student who plans to attend an accredited college or university.  The applicant will be ranked by academic achievement as well as special talents, experiences and/or other achievements.  Deadline is March 31st.

 

Sisters for a Better Black Community, Inc. is awarding scholarships to disadvantaged, underprivileged, minority students.  Applicants must possess a minimum 2.5 GPA and be able to demonstrate a need for financial assistance in order to attend college.  Deadline is April 1st.

 

Network North Star, Inc., the African-American Network of Eastman Kodak Company, is offering scholarships to college-bound African-American high school seniors.  Applicants must have a minimum B GPA and plan to major in Business or Applied Science.  This includes all forms of engineering, biology, computer science, and zoology.  Deadline is April 15th.

 

The Rochester Irish Festival Committee is offering the Ambassador to Waterford scholarship.  This $1,000 scholarship is open to students in grades 9 – 12 and of Irish descent.  Deadline is July 31st.

 

The Urban League of Rochester has numerous scholarships posted on their web site.  Applications and deadlines vary by scholarship.  Visit www.ulr.org/scholarships.htm for more information.

 

Art/Theatre

The Traveling Cabaret of Irondequoit will be awarding scholarships to college-bound high school seniors pursuing the arts upon graduation.  The arts include, but are not limited to: music, dance, drama, art, writing, technical and all other arts related areas.  Deadline is April 9th.

 

The Heart of Gold Children’s Foundation and RBTL has established a scholarship in memory of Bill Klein.  Students eligible for this $1,000 award must be planning to attend a 4-year college or university with a major in the performing arts.  Deadline is April 30th.

 

Misc:

NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal is offering the Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship to a special education student who is college bound.  The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her special challenges to complete high school and obtain acceptance to a college or university.  Deadline is April 2nd.

The Karl Szulgit Memorial Scholarship will be offered to high school seniors who have an account and are in good standing with a Federal Credit Union within the Rochester Credit Union District.  Scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and essay response.  Deadline is April 30th.

The Natale Scholarship will award at least $1,000 to two deserving high school graduates from the town of Irondequoit.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be continuing on to either the University of Illinois, Rochester Institute of Technology or Niagara University.  Deadline is May 1st.

 

The William Jackson Hawley Scholarship is available to help a student whose parent has recently died from cancer or who is undergoing cancer treatment.  This need-based scholarship provides support when family finances experience a drastic change due to medical bills or reduced income as a result of

cancer.  Applicants must be a graduating senior with at least a 3.0 GPA and continuing on to college.  Deadline is May 14th.

 

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants scholarship program is open to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.  Visit their website at http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm for additional information.  Deadline is June 19th.

 

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is offering a $500 scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by the essays submitted.  Application information can be found at www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.php   Deadline is Oct. 8th.

Job Opportunities:

The "Summer of Opportunity" program requires an online application. The Digital Skills Workshop Program applications are available in the Career Center. Opportunities are limited so get your applications in soon. See Mrs. Russ for assistance.

 

SEABREEZE applications are in the Career Center. Seabreeze will be interviewing here at school on Tuesday, April 6th from 3-6 p.m. in the Campus Center. There will also be weekend interviews at Seabreeze Park.

The Irondequoit Youth Court is looking for student volunteers.  An organizational meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on March 17th at the Irondequoit Town Hall.  Stop in the College & Career Center for additional information.
